1 dead and 17 injured in two terror attacks

An Israeli border patrol officer was killed on Wednesday night (Australian time) when a car drove into pedestrians in a terror attack in Jerusalem. 14 people were injured in the incident and a further three Israeli Defence Force soldiers were injured on Thursday morning (Australian time) in a second incident when a truck with a Palestinian license plate slammed into the soldiers. In the first terror attack the driver slammed his car into a train platform and then back out and attempted to drive away but failed. He then attempted to get out of the car to attack civilians when he was shot by police. In the second incident the truck fled the scene immediately after the attack, and security forces set up roadblocks and launched searches of the area of the southern West Bank.

Magen David Adom spokesman Zaki Heller said paramedics treated three Israelis aged 20, one with serious chest wounds, and two moderately injured men with broken bones and injuries in their limbs. The wounded were evacuated to the Hadassan Ein Kerem hospital in Jerusalem.

Security forces were fanning out in an attempt to locate the driver. The IDF is also investigating the incident and taking part in the widespread searches.
