A fresh approach to real estate

In Sydney, singles and families can now log onto a new property website, Jewish Living, which has been designed specifically to assist Jewish people who want to buy, sell, rent or share.

SOMETIMES it can be difficult to find a kosher flatmate, or a place to live that is within walking distance of a shul.

But in Sydney, singles and families can now log onto a new property website, Jewish Living, which has been designed specifically to assist Jewish people who want to buy, sell, rent or share.

Website founder Oschrie Massatschi came up with the idea three years ago while living and working in Tel Aviv.

“I thought how easy it is to find Jewish people in the area that I live,” he said. “My question to myself was why couldn’t it be as easy everywhere in the world … to find the right place to live within close proximity to synagogues, kosher butchers [and] like-minded people.

“So I came up with the idea to create my own tool to help myself and help others that have the same problem.”

Jewish Living is a fresh way of thinking, which adds value in a way that other websites don’t.

“You can do a specific search for a property that has a kosher kitchen or a Shabbat lift [plus] we’ve got the Jewish infrastructure on the map in place so people can choose the location according to their own personal needs,” he said. “You don’t get that from any other real estate website.”

Massatschi, who has a business background in finance, really did his homework before launching the site.

“I spent quite a few months writing a business plan, coming up with a business case, getting the funding together and then talking to other business professionals that have already gone this path and started their own online business.”

After finding out what problems they had encountered, Massatschi then began the search for the right developer.

After a year of development, the website had its official launch last month.

“We’ve got over a hundred properties and we’ve got around 10 real estate agents already registered,” he said.

Unique features of Jewish Living include private users being able to place advertisements without charge. The site is also supported by Jewish communal bodies to increase its reach.

“We have already partnered up with several synagogues and Jewish organisations,” Massatschi said.
