MACCABI NSW Touch Football Club’s winter competition returns this weekend after a mid-season break, and the race for the minor premiership could not be any tighter.

In the last round before the break, Chiefs, Flams and Dubs made it a three-way tie for first place on the table.

The Naturals are holding onto fourth spot in the top four, while Try Hards and YSNP hold the fifth and sixth division one playoff spots.

That could change over the next three weeks, as five teams – including Tigers, You Shall Not Pass and Can’t Touch This – vie for the final two finals-bound spots up for grabs in the top division.

In a potential grand final match-up, the Dubs edged Flams in a high quality encounter to round out the first half of the season.

It was a master class from veterans Yotam Hatzvi and Adam Zinman, who kept clawing back their side whenever it fell behind. The Karras brothers were busy, but couldn’t quite get the Flams over the line.

The Chiefs look dangerous and are a strong chance to take out the title with Steven Barrett, Ilana Krigstein, Ben Kochan, Zac Seidler and Joel Ninyo marshalling the side. Luke Cox and Dee Stewart have impressed as well.

The Naturals are a dark horse for the competition. Their experienced players can get them over the line, but importantly, the likes of Carla Sank, Kim Zinma and Rosie and Sarah Meyerowitz are improving each week.

Try Hards have been the surprise packet of the competition, while 2014 grand finalist YSNP will look to run back into some form on the road to finals.

The competition will be split into two tiers for the remainder of the winter season, as part of its commitment to ensuring experienced, as well as new players, have an appropriate level to play at, according to club president David Weiner.

Meanwhile, Maccabi will facilitate a Term 3 winter boys’ touch football competition for the Jewish day schools. Mt Sinai has two squads that will compete against Emanuel School and Ivanhoe Grammar School (IGS) in a primary division, while Moriah College and Emanuel will contest the high school tier with IGS.
