Five more soldiers killed bringing total IDF casualties to 53
The IDF announced on Tuesday afternoon (Australian time) that five soldiers were killed in an attempted infiltration into Israel via a cross-border tunnel from Gaza.
The five fallen soldiers are: Sergeant Daniel Kedmi, 18, of Tzofim; Sergeant Barkai Yishai Shor, 21, of Jerusalem; Sergeant Sagi Erez (pictured), 19, of Kiryat Ata; Sergeant Dor Dery, 18, of Jerusalem; Sgt. Nadav Raimond, 19, from Shadmot Dvora.
All five soldiers had been part of a commanders’ training course.
In the incident, the soldiers detected a terrorist cell surfacing in the Nahal Oz area and opened fire on it, killing one Gazan attacker. The terrorist was shot while attempting to kidnap the body of one of the soldiers.
