Planning for the future

MACCABI NSW has laid down plans to continue the development of its clubs, policies and ongoing support of Jewish community, with club presidents and the organisation’s executive teaming for a recent planning seminar called MacPlan.

Maccabi NSW president Danny Hochberg believes the event fulfilled the aim to ensure that the roof body was aligned with the needs of its clubs, which focus around seven key pillars: Judaism, sport, identity, integrity, leadership, sustainability and home.

“I believe we achieved a lot,” Hochberg told The AJN.

“I feel confident that Maccabi NSW and its clubs, while not on the same page on all issues, have commenced on a path of cooperation and shared vision.”

MacPlan was facilitated by David Schlessinger, the current CEO of the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce, and included keynote speakers Daniel Grynberg, CEO of JCA, who provided insightful research about the Jewish population in NSW and the importance on focusing on the youth, as well as Maccabi Australia chairman Barry Smorgon, who spoke about the relationship between Maccabi at local, national and on a global level.

Maccabi Youth Committee representatives Steven Brisson and Joel Weiner also outlined the importance of the involvement of Maccabi’s emerging sports leaders.

The Maccabi executive will use the feedback to review each of the portfolios and formulate an action plan to implement the agreed strategies with the clubs.
