Rockets found in UNRWA school for a third time

A stockpile of Hamas rockets was found on Wednesday (Australian time) in a school in the Gaza Strip.

It is the third time in a week that rockets have been discovered in a school.

The UN aid agency for Palestinian refugees, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said Wednesday that a stockpile of Hamas rockets was found in one of its schools in Gaza.

In its press release, UNRWA’s spokesperson said that the discovery was made during a routine inspection of the school, “which was closed for the summer and not being used as a shelter.”

“We condemn the group or groups who endangered civilians by placing these munitions in our school,” an UNRWA spokesperson said.

“This is yet another flagrant violation of the neutrality of our premises. We call on all the warring parties to respect the inviolability of UN property.”

UNRWA did not confirm how many rockets were there, where the school was in the Gaza Strip or if the UN would be able to send in an expert to disarm and remove the weapons.

This is the third time in the last week that UNRWA has found rockets in schools in Gaza.

Only July 22 they found rockets in a school that was situated between two other UNRWA schools that were accommodating 1,500 internally displaced persons.
