St Ives gets its eruv

ST Ives finally has a functional eruv.

After a six year battle fraught with multiple disappointments, The AJN can confirm that the eruv, which comprises existing Ausgrid power poles and telecommunications cabling, has been halachically approved.

It takes in about 70 per cent of the area and the vast majority of the Jewish population of St Ives.

The AJN also understands that the redesigned eruv required no new infrastructure to be put on public land.

Rabbi Gad Krebs, of Kehillat Masada, the largest congregation in the area, said the eruv will be of great benefit. “It’s a fantastic piece of North Shore infrastructure that I think will being an enourmous amount of harmony and unity to the community,” he said.

“Young and old can come to each other homes and to shul on Shabbat and enjoy the community spirit.”

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff said: “It’s taken time, but it’s pleasing to see that the eruv is at last in place.

“It will make life easier for members of the local community, as it has done for Jewish communities around the world.”

A map will be available to subscribers to the eruv, and anyone requiring more information is encouraged to contact their local synagogue.
