SYDNEY photographer Ofer Levy has won overall first prize in the 2011 Birdlife Australia photography competition for his image of a pied cormorant feeding in Centennial Park. Judges remarked of the photo: “One of the best ways to inspire people to look at wildlife in a different way is to capture behaviour that is attention-grabbing, and that’s exactly what we see in this image. You get a real sense of the hunger of the chick, and the things a parent has to tolerate to feed a growing baby!”

It’s not the first time Levy has been recognised for his nature photography. He won the ANZANG Nature photographer of the year twice – in 2011 and 2007.

“Wildlife photography is my hobby and passion,” Ofer, who is well-known in the Sydney Jewish community as a wedding and bar mitzvah photographer, told The AJN. “It’s an opportunity to be outdoors, wake up at sunrise and do what I love.”
