AHEAD of their community service trip in June, 14 members of Mount Scopus Memorial College’s Cambodia team met at the base of the 1000 Steps in the Dandenong Ranges for their first fundraising effort.

Organised by participant Alex Fleiszig, each team member was sponsored 1000 cents for 1000 steps, and enlisted the support of as many sponsors as they could.

Students and staff climbed the steep 1000 steps from the Ferntree Gully Rangers Office in the Dandenong Ranges National Park to One Tree Hill Picnic Ground, a trek of 5 kilometres, which took about two hours.

The goal was to raise enough money for one of the four houses they will be building in a village outside of Phnom Penh.

A fundraising sausage sizzle and movie night are also planned.
