Jarrod Basger has been selected in Australia’s 14-man squad for the upcoming FIFA Futsal World Cup in Columbia.

Basger, who played for the Maccabi Futsal Club in Sydney before he moved to England recently, was a part of Australia last World Cup team in 2012.

In that tournament Australia lost to Italy and Mexico, but defeated Argentina in Thailand. The team finished third in its group but didn’t progress to the knockout stage.

Basgeralso helped the Futsalroos win the Trans-Tasman Cup against New Zealand and the Commonwealth Cup against Malaysia last year.

Basger has represented Maccabi on the world stage as well.

He was a part of the  2015 Maccabi Australia futsal squad that won a silver medal at the European Maccabi Games in Berlin.Rob Valeras coach Rob Valera said he is pleased with the make-up of the squad.

“It was a very difficult decision to pick the final squad from our extended training group as every player has performed well,” Valera said.

A total of 24 nations have qualified for the finals, to be held from September 10 until October 1, including Brazil, Italy, Egypt and the host nation Columbia.
