EXCITEMENT is building for the 2017 Maccabi Australia Junior Carnival, which begins this Sunday in Perth.

About 200 Jewish athletes from all around Australia and New Zealand, aged between 12 and 16, will come together in Western Australia’s capital to compete in sports including basketball, netball, football, tennis and beach volleyball.

The program also includes many social events for the athletes, including a day at Adventure World, an outdoor movie night and a glow dance party.

Although overall numbers will be slightly down, Perth offers a unique, close-knit carnival experience whenever it plays host – something not lost on NSW delegation team manager Shayna Slotar.

“The WA organising committee and all the youth leaders have been planning to make sure it will be an amazing experience for all participants,” Slotar told The AJN.

“They will have the opportunity to meet Jewish kids from other states, which is something pretty special. “We really can’t wait to get to Perth.”
