OLYMPIAN Gavin Fingleson is set to be inducted into the Southeastern Louisiana University Hall of Fame.

Fingleson, who won a silver medal at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, retired from baseball after Australia failed to qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

After a decorated career representing his country and playing baseball professionally around the world, Fingleson, 33, is now the fielding coach for the Sri Lankan national cricket team.

He will make the trip to the US for the induction ceremony this week.

The Sydneysider played for Southeastern from 1998 to 1999 and still holds the record for the best career batting average, with a remarkable .370.

He was twice selected in the All-Southland Conference side and made the All-Louisiana team in 1998 and the American Baseball Coaches Association team in 1999.

Fingleson also represented Australia at three baseball world cups, as well as the World Baseball Classic in 2006.
