TECHNION – Israel Institute of Technology’s SciTech summer school program is now open to students from secular schools for the first time.
The program, which takes place annually during the northern summer in July and August, gives high school students from around the world the opportunity to work and study in laboratories with Technion students and professors.
“This year, students from all Sydney Jewish day schools are invited to apply to Technion Australia, as are any year 10 to year 12 students from other schools who can obtain permission from their principal,” Technion Australia (TA) president Ruth Ratner said.
Scholarships through Technion Australia NSW are available.
TA executive director Ken Lander said students who excel in science, are curious about the world they live in and enjoy a challenge are encouraged to apply.
“[They should also be] mature enough to work and socialise with other bright students who are generally a year older than them,” he said.
“They must also be good ambassadors for our community and Australian students generally.”
Moriah College student Mark Sonnenschein was the first Australian student to be accepted into the program in 2014. “Simply put, SciTech changed my life,” he said.
“It gave me the amazing opportunity to explore the Technion campus in more depth and breadth than a regular open day ever could. I am definitely considering embarking on tertiary study at the Technion University.”
Ricky Schlessinger, also from Moriah College, attended the program last year.
“SciTech was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience – great fun, amazing company and mind-blowing learning,” he said.
“No words can explain the feeling of being overseas with a bunch of intelligent kids from across the world thinking together, working together and laughing together. It was truly inspirational and enjoyable.”
