Calling all young artists

WITH Rosh Hashanah just a few weeks away, it’s time for younger members of the community to put their minds to one of the festival’s most important traditions.

No, not dipping apple in honey or blowing the shofar.

The tradition we’re talking about is putting pen or pencil to paper for The AJN’s annual Rosh Hashanah card competition.

Open to children aged between five and 12, the winning entry will become the official AJN Rosh Hashanah card for 5775 sent to everyone from community leaders to the Prime Minister of Australia and the President of Israel.

“Over the past few years since launching the competition, we have been overwhelmed by both the quantity and quality of the entries,” said AJN national editor Zeddy Lawrence. “It really is encouraging to see such a wealth of artistic talent within the community, and we can’t wait to receive the colourful creations the community’s kids come up with this year.”

Last year’s competition was won with a design by Leibler Yavneh College student Ashira Sabel.

Entries should be submitted on an A4 sheet of paper, with the entrant’s name, school and contact details written on the back, to Rosh Hashanah card competition, PO Box 1000, Caulfield South, Vic 3162. The closing date for entries is Monday, September 8.
