Carnival countdown begins

WITH just over one month to go until the 2013 Maccabi Junior Carnival kicks off in Sydney, carnival manager Danny Hochberg said his team is on track to produce the best one yet.

“In my opinion, this will be the best run carnival yet, in terms of a range of things,” Hochberg told The AJN.

“Everything has been organised, we’ve got all the events booked and the major players in place, so it’s just about the minor details now.”

With several big social events planned and the introduction of some exciting new sports, Hochberg said the participants are in for a treat.

“Based on the feedback from our participants, the harbour cruise will definitely be a big event,” Hochberg said.

“But we’ve also got a heap of other social events, [so] our main aim is for the kids to have fun.

“[And] we’ve had a great amount of interest as well in our new sports such as AFL 9s, ultimate frisbee, rock climbing and beach volleyball.”

Organisers are working round the clock to ensure it is a big success, most recently running a leadership seminar with all states and their staff.

“There were a number of positives that came from the leadership seminar,” Hochberg said.

“The first objective was to give leadership training to our young leaders; the second objective was to ensure everyone is on the same page in terms of coordinating all the activities; and the third objective was for everyone to get to know each other, and all of those were achieved.”

Between 500 and 600 kids are set to hit the Harbour City in mid-January for what will be the 31st edition of Maccabi Junior Carnival.

And not all is lost for those who have not yet registered, with the organisers allowing one more week of registration up until Friday, December 14.

“We’ve got to a draw a line in the sand unfortunately,” Hochberg said.

“People can still register, but they have one week before we will not accept anymore.”

Now around five weeks away, all those involved in the carnival are counting down the days until January 15, the opening ceremony.
