Carp, Catzel and Co master swimming nationals

Carp dominated the 45-49 age group, claiming five gold medals, two silvers and a bronze.
“I’m very happy, it was my best national champs that I’ve ever competed in,” Carp told The AJN.
The 49-year-old swept the floor in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events, and the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.
“Since coming back to swimming, my favourite stroke is definitely backstroke.”
Carp returned to the pool four years ago after a three-decade hiatus. He won eight medals at last year’s Maccabiah Games.
Sable also put in a strong showing in the 50-54 breaststroke swims, with a gold in the 50m, and bronze in the 100m and 200m races.
Catzel collected a swag of medals in the 70-74 age group, winning the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley, while he also pocketed five other medals in backstroke and breaststroke.
Fellow Sydneysider Brian May swam third in the 55-59 200m individual medley, while WA’s Malcolm Levin impressed in the freestyle events, taking out bronze in the 50 and 100m swims.
