AFTER a decade at the helm of one of our most vital community organisations, Community Security Group (CSG) head of security David Rothman will step down later this year.

Rothman, who joined the organisation as a fresh-faced 19-year-old, told The AJN the timing was right to move on to fresh challenges.

“I feel that the CSG has been set on a very sound strategic path and I have worked with the other professional staff at CSG, especially with the senior leadership team, to form a robust structure and strategy around our community security objectives,” he said.

“I now feel that with these structures in place, it’s simply the right time to follow some of my own personal ambitions.”

Rothman, who will continue to serve as a volunteer, said he was inspired to join the CSG after seeing a friend “transform into a very serious guy, clear on his responsibilities and with a clear decisive direction in life”.

“He had become a decision maker, a communicator, someone that would take action. School, and largely life in Sydney, doesn’t teach that. And that appealed to me,” he said, adding that as the grandchild of Holocaust survivors, he wanted to serve the community.

He said he was “incredibly proud” of the team at CSG.

“CSG has risen to the demands and challenges of a new environment, has formed strong relationships with authorities, and has evolved its methodology and its security framework to meet those challenges,” he said.

“Our volunteers are greater in numbers than ever before, and our security infrastructure and intelligence capability is sophisticated and far-reaching.

“The CSG will succeed, and it will grow. There is tremendous talent in its leadership and I look forward to seeing it grow into its strategic objectives in the coming years.”

Chairman of the Council for Jewish Community Security Peter Wise said he was “full of admiration” for Rothman’s achievements over his 10 years at the organisation.

“I’ve watched CSG develop and become a more robust organisation during the period he was at the helm,” he said.

“While it’s sad to see him transition out of the professional team I’m confident that he is leaving the organisation in a strong position and that any future head of security will have a robust organisation to lead and will have big shoes to fill.”
