Cranbourne recognised for excellence
THE Cranbourne Golf Club recently received two major awards at the Clubs Victoria – Awards for Excellence, recognising the efforts of the strong Jewish heritage that the club has sustained since its establishment in 1954.
THE Cranbourne Golf Club recently received two major awards at the Clubs Victoria – Awards for Excellence, recognising the efforts of the strong Jewish heritage that the club has sustained since its establishment in 1954.
Cranbourne was named the Golf Club of the Year, and took out the award for Club Branding of the Year, as well as being rated as the 69th best golf course in Australia.
The club came up against the likes of the RACV City Club, The Eastern Golf Club and eventual Club of the Year winner Mulgrave Country Club to win the awards.
The branding award recognises Cranbourne’s clever marketing initiatives, as well as its ability to embrace social media as a way of keeping its members informed of events and news on a regular basis.
The Golf Club of the Year award acknowledges the quality of the course, facilities and services provided, as well as competitions, events and initiatives developed by the club.
The club was founded by a group of Melbourne Jewish men, mostly immigrants, providing a base for Jewish golfers who were barred from playing at several other courses in Victoria based on their religion.
Since first being opened, the club, which practises a non-discriminatory policy in regards to members’ backgrounds, has maintained its Jewish heritage over the years, with more than 40 per cent of its current membership coming from the Jewish community, including Jewish members on the board and a Jewish president.
Cranbourne also acknowledges the Jewish holidays, restricting activities to protect its Jewish identity.
The Maccabi Victoria Golf Club has also set up a strong relationship with the club, using the facilities as its home and co-running the annual Jewish Golf Championships.
