Hundreds of mourners filled Emanuel Synagogue on Wednesday to pay tribute to Maccabi icon and former Sydney Kings owner Michael Wrublewski, who passed away on Sunday after losing his short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Delivering the eulogy, Wrublewski’s oldest son Adam said his father was “a really great man”, and fondly recalled growing up in a house that was always filled with Maccabi and Sydney Kings players.

“He was a really strong a guy, a real leader. He didn’t like following,” Adam said. “He galvanised a team to work together; he had vision, he believed in people and would push you until you achieved. He did so much for so many.”

Speaking at the funeral, Rabbi Jeffrey Kamins said that Wrublewski would be remembered for his “incredible strength and vision”.

“Mike loved a challenge and especially overcoming one. He inherited from his Polish Holocaust survivor parents much of his understanding and approach to life,” Rabbi Kamins said.
