Among the well-known comedians presenting shows are Akmal, Arj Barker, Dave Hughes, Fiona O’Loughlin, Frank Woodley, Jimeon, Rove McManus and Stephen K Amos.
The Jewish Comedy Showcase, presented by Shalom, returns with comedians Jackie Loeb, Jim Brewsky, David Smiedt, Michael Shafar and Mike Goldstein on the bill for a night of laughs at The Comedy Store on May 9.
Brewsky is an African-American comic based in Hong-Kong and South African born David Smiedt is well known on the local scene.
Lawyer turned comedian Michael Shafar has just made his solo debut at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival after several years on the Melbourne comedy circuit. He was a 2016 RAW Comedy National finalist and is the creator of the satirical webpage Round Squares.
Loeb, who has been carving out a career in Los Angeles for the past 10 years, also presents her solo show, Forty-Five, at The Factory Theatre from May 4.
Loeb has performed around Australia and at festivals in Hollywood, Edinburgh, Melbourne and South Africa. In her new show she reflects on life at 45.
American Mike Goldstein, now based in Sydney, brings his new rapid-fire comedy show Sassy to The Factory Theatre from May 4-7.
Since becoming a full-time comedian after leaving his law career in 2010, Goldstein has performed in Asia, America, South Africa and Britain.
Aaron Gocs is making his solo show debut at this year’s festival with Classic Stitch-Up at The Enmore Theatre from May 4-7.
With almost a decade of comedy experience in his home city of Brisbane and around the country, his stand-up comedy show tackles everyday issues affecting work, family, sport and food through jokes and stories.
Gocs has appeared on the ABC comedy shows International Student and Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am.
