FIVE Jewish students were recognised for topping Higher School Certificate subjects today in Sydney.

Liam Slabber, from Cranbrook School, finished first in English Extension 1, which is considered one of the most prestigious subjects.

Slabber’s father Dion told The AJN, “We are incredibly proud of his achievement.”

Brigidine College student Rebecca Rosenberg defied all the odds to finish first in Economics. Rosenberg had a particularly tough year because her father passed away several months ago, but was still able to perform outstandingly well in the HSC.

Moriah College student Mimi Smith, who was represented at the awards by her father Nathan, topped the state in Classical Hebrew Continuers while her fellow Moriah student Eliezer Schwarz was recognised for finishing first in Classical Hebrew Extension.

Kesser Torah College also had a student who was honoured today because Shani Biton achieved the highest possible marks in Modern Hebrew Continuers.

120 students from across NSW were honoured today when Premier Gladys Berejiklian presented students with awards to recognise their outstanding results.

“It is a pleasure to pay tribute to their remarkable success and celebrate the inspiring achievement,” Berejiklian said.
