STAR canoeist Jessica Fox created history on the weekend by becoming the first female to win gold medals in the C1 and K1 events at the same ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup Series.

“I am very happy to win my first World Cup medal in K1 and to do the double in Tacen is really special,” Fox said.

“I was really happy that I was able to stay clean and on line and improve a little on my semifinal [time].”

The 19-year-old blitzed the field in both races in Tacen, Slovenia, winning the C1 final for the third time by a staggering 2.35s.

She then went on to take out the K1 event in controversial circumstances, with the race being re-run due to low-water levels.

After failing to medal in the first run, Fox was able to keep her cool the second time around to register her maiden K1 victory at a world cup by 0.34s.

“I guess it was out of our hands and I was then given a second chance and decided to make the most of it as I had nothing to lose,” Fox said.

“In my final run, I got pushed around at gate one and had to change my plan and recover quickly. Then the rest of the run came together and was pretty controlled.”

Fox has picked up four gold medals and one silver from the four World Cup stages and took her blistering form into the final event in Bratislava, Slovakia.
