ITALIAN tennis ace Camila Giorgi is the only Jewish player to progress to the second round of the 2014 Australian Open, with American Wayne Odesnik failing in Melbourne’s scorching heat earlier this week.

The 22-year-old, ranked 99 in the world, took on rising Aussie star Storm Sanders and came from behind to record a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory in just under two hours.

Meanwhile, American gun Odesnik, who won his way through the qualifying period, was heartbreakingly denied in an epic five-set loss to France’s Vincent Millot 7-5, 4-6, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3.

In a see-sawing affair, Odesnik, 28, had several decisions go against him, including a second serve-ace to save a match point that was overruled by the chair umpire.
