Hamas ‘remains committed to genocide’

AUSTRALIAN Jewish leaders have been quick to dismiss Hamas’ new policy document as a sham and a publicity stunt.

The terrorist organisation has received widespread applause from some sections of the world’s media because, for the first time, it states that it “is ready to support the (Palestinian) state on 1967 borders” and it has differentiated between Jews and Israelis.

But the document also states that Hamas will not recognise Israel, that “resisting the occupation by all means” is legitimate and that “at the heart of these lies armed resistance”.

Executive Council of Australian Jewry executive director Peter Wertheim said the document has been put out for public relations purposes only and that only the most wilfully blind or extremely gullible would see this as a change in direction for Hamas.

“The document expressly confirms that the entire original 1988 Hamas Covenant remains in full force and effect, including its call for the obliteration of Israel and the killing of Jews, its crudely anti-Jewish language and its affirmation of the fabricated document known as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” Wertheim told The AJN.

“Hamas remains as committed as ever to its odious charter for genocide. No part of it has been revoked or amended.

“The new document is merely a series of self-serving denials that the old document is anti-Semitic.”

Wertheim said that Hamas continues to commit and celebrate the butchery of Jewish civilians, including children, in acts of terrorism, to gleefully portray the stabbing murders of rabbis at prayer, and to brandish an effigy of the Jewish Temple on a coffin at public events.

“It is at every level a loathsome organisation that worships at the altar of hatred, violence and bloodshed.

“With regard to Israel, Hamas remains stuck in the rut of rejectionism, where it has always been.”

Zionist Federation of Australia president Danny Lamm echoed Wertheim’s comments.

“The Hamas intentions are despicable as always,” he said.

“Just as in the past, the Palestinian Authority didn’t ever alter its charter, the same will apply with Hamas.

“Hamas remains with blood on its hands and bloody intentions.”
