AUSTRALIAN and Victorian cricketer David Hussey and former Test paceman Rodney Hogg will be the special guests at an upcoming Maccabiah Cricket Sportsmans and Auction Night.

The evening will also feature a reunion for former Australian Maccabiah cricket representatives, which promises to make the night a wonderful celebration of Jewish cricket.

The event is being held as a fundraiser for the open cricket team that will head to Israel in 2013 for the 19th Maccabiah Games, which boasts the likes of West End Redback’s Michael Klinger, as well as former Australian Test opener and current Maccabi Firsts captain Julien Wiener.

“This event has been earmarked as the major fundraiser for our squad, so it’s important for us to make it a success,” Paul Fink, 2013 Australian Maccabiah Cricket Team manager, said.

“With so many current and former top-level cricketers in the room, it really is shaping up to be a wonderful evening, as well as hopefully providing a forum for former Australian Maccabiah players to get together and relive the glory days of their past Israel adventures.”

As a further boon for organisers, Klinger will be in Melbourne to attend the night as it coincides with a Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and South Australia.

Hussey has represented Australia in 64 one-day and 39 Twenty20 international matches, and has scored over 12,000 first-class runs during his career playing for Victoria.

Hogg played 38 Test matches and 71 one-dayers for Australia between 1978 and 1985, as well as participating in World Series Cricket when it was introduced in the late 1970s.

The night will feature both a silent and major auction, with plenty of products and memorabilia up for grabs, including signed cricket bats and equipment.

The Maccabiah Cricket Sportsmans and Auction Night is being held on Sunday, November 25 at 6.30pm at the Caulfield Park Pavilion (Melway: 59 C12). Enquiries: Paul Fink 0412 662 721, paul@thefinks.com.au; www.maccabi.com.au/sportsmansnight
