CANADIAN Jesse Levine’s defeat to Juan Martin Del Potro in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships marked the exit of the last Jewish hope.
For the first time since the 1998 Australia Open, there was not one Israeli who qualified for the singles draw, with only Levine, American Wayne Odesnik and Italian Camila Giorgi making it through.
Levine was dispatched by the eighth-seeded Argentinian, while Odesnik went down to Jimmy Wang and Giorgi was soundly beaten by Marion Bartoli.
Israelis Shahar Peer, Julia Glushko, Amir Weintraub and Dudi Sela were all sent packing in the qualifying stages, before Peer, Andy Ram, Jonathan Erlich and Scott Lipsky all struggled in their respective doubles matches.
