JNF reaches new heights

THE Jewish National Fund (JNF) gave some of its blue-box collectors and business forum members a special thank you last Tuesday.

The morning began with a business breakfast hosted by St George Bank, where attendees were inspired by the story of Paul Cave AM, the chairman and founder of Sydney’s BridgeClimb.

Cave spoke about how it took nine years to transform his dream into one of Australia’s most popular tourist attractions, which now draws 175,000 climbers per year.

“Listening to Paul Cave was inspiring as it highlighted the commitment to vision and tenacity, hallmarks of the Jewish character over the millennium.” JNF NSW president Alex Abulafia said.

JNF NSW shaliach and executive director Ygal Shapir also spoke, thanking those attendance for their staunch support of the organisation.

He said 2011 had been extremely successful, with two blue box campaigns well supported and a successful Green Sunday campaign, which raised money for the Carmel Forest Rehabilitation project.

He said JNF was proud to have in its ranks some fourth and fifth generation blue box collectors.

Following the breakfast, the lucky attendees got the chance to participate in a bridge climb themselves.

Feedback from attendees included the morning being “most memorable”, “one of those magical moments in one’s lifetime” and “an incredible experience”.

“Scaling the bridge as a team, and seeing the exhilarating sights and appreciating the achievements possible is akin to leading [the] JNF and appreciating what we as a team have achieved since the organisation’s inception, and what is possible for the future for Israel and our community,” Abulafia said.

The event was sponsored by former JNF NSW president Peter Smaller.
