THREE of Maccabi Basketball Club’s junior sides added to last weekend’s grand-final success, with the boys’ under-8 Spurs and Thunder, as well as the under-10 Blaze all taking out their respective premierships.

In addition, all three sides were coached by the same young man, who achieved it all in just his first year of coaching.

The Spurs did it tough in a close encounter with the Rocketeerz, narrowly getting up 12-10 to cap off an outstanding year for the side.

Young star Jonah Vaysbakh continued his great form with a game-high eight points to lead Maccabi to victory.

He was well supported by Ben Geller, who shot the other four points, as well as Ben Springer, Matan Barhom, Joshua Benchoman, Aiden Goodridge and Ryan Folden.

“The end result was outstanding, winning the championship,” the coach said after the game.

“Over the season the boys learnt how to play as a team and worked on making early passes and the right passes. The final today showed how far they have come.”

Fellow under-8 team, the Thunder, made easy work of its opponent the Gems, winning 26-8 in a one-sided affair.

Jesse Hallis opened the scoring early and went on to shoot eight points, with Aiden Foreman, Brody Elbourne and Coby New hitting four each.

Remy Waller and Zack Greenberg also added to the great team effort with two points apiece to ensure victory for the Maccabi side.

The Blaze also recorded a fairly convincing win over Woollahra Bulldogs Red, taking the title after a 22-15 victory.

Mathew Bozic led the way with 16 points, supported by Jesse Waller, Beck Rosen and Daniel Chorev, who shot two each.

Daniel Suttener and Jayden Adler had great games in defence, as Maccabi rounded its undefeated season with a championship win.
