THREE of Maccabi’s junior teams took out grand finals in the City of Sydney Basketball Association on the weekend, with the under-16 girls Cheetahs, boys under-12 Kings and under-14 Devils coming away with their respective premierships.

The Cheetahs faced old foe Newtown in their third grand final in a row, and were too good in a 27-19 win.

After racing out to an early lead, Maccabi showed off its offensive dominance on the back of the sharp-shooting Martine Agranat (eight points), Amy Altman (four) and Jessica Shagrin (four).

The Kings also got off to a flying start in their decider against Inner City, which set them up for a 25-20 victory.

Josh Nicholson had a big impact early and managed to hit eight points for the game, Jesse Waller led all scorers with 10, and Jared Elbourne and Shannon Meyer provided great support at both ends of the court.

Maccabi’s under-14 Devils put in a brilliant performance against Newtown, outplaying their opponents in every aspect of the game to record a 50-30 triumph.

The game started off with Mikey Benchoam and Greg Diamond dominating the key at both ends, with the two standouts reeling in several boards and hitting crucial buckets.

Jordan Spyrides and Matt Gameron also pitched in offensively, but it was the defensive work of Alex Burman, Ben and Josh Fischl, Saul Hirner and Dylan Katz that got the Devils over the line.
