KA: ‘We are not in turmoil’
THE Kashrut Authority (KA) has responded to claims it is in turmoil.
Two of the KA’s four board members resigned because KA president Baron Revelman released its responses to the Kashrut Commission of Inquiry (KCI), which examined the state of kashrut in Sydney, without their consent.
The KA responded to The AJN’s report, saying it is not in turmoil.
“Not at all. It has never been more certain about its future,” Revelman said today (Friday).
“The KA had unanimously resolved to write the response to the KCI report, and spent a week preparing the document. All board members were shown the final document, and one of the resignees was intimately involved in the editing of the first 5 versions, as well as the final document.
“The board were told it was going to be released first thing Thursday morning and given the option to further edit until then. All responses before that deadline were considered in the preparation of the document. It was then released in accordance with the stated timetable.”
Revelman said at no time did any board member move to not release the document, and said the resignations had “come as a complete surprise”.
“The KA stands 100 per cent by the document it has released, which reveals the true facts in relation to kashrut in NSW. We urge consumers not to be distracted from learning the truth about the KCI report. As stated in that document we will continue to serve the community as we have in the past and remain prepared to work with the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies.”
Revelman said two new board members would be appointed to the KA shortly.
