SYDNEY’S Jewish community could have a “fresh, modern” kosher butcher in time for the High Holy Days with work underway on a new and improved Hadassa Butchery on Hall Street, Bondi Beach.

The relocation marks the end of an era with Hadassa trading from the same location in O’Brien Street, just a short distance away, for four decades.

“Just as we have had to completely upgrade and modernise our manufacturing and processing capability to meet current regulatory, health and business requirements, so too must we do that in our retail store,” said Avron Rayman, CEO of Kosherworld, which operates Hadassa and kosher eatery Katzy’s.

“The current premises in O’Brien Street simply could not be brought up to the required standard, and as much as we would like to stay there, moving our Katzy’s wholesale food production operation to Kirrawee opened up a wonderful space into which to transplant a fresh, modern butcher shop.

“We will be able to offer more variety, improved quality, and convenience, without compromising the high street, family butcher experience, but in a better configured space.”

Meanwhile, Kosherworld has recently been awarded a full licence by the NSW Food Authority to produce a wide range of kosher products at its new Kirrawee integrated facility.

“Our vision has always been to put together an integrated, high quality, kosher meat and food operation which will benefit the Sydney and NSW Jewish communities, and to make quality kosher meat and ready to eat products more accessible to the consumer,” Rayman said.

“Setting up Kirrawee and getting this licence is a very big deal in terms of delivering this vision. It opens up a world of opportunity.”

Stating, “This is a very exciting development,” Rayman said plans have been approved for the new 120 square metre Bondi store, and work is underway with a view to it being ready for the upcoming chagim.

“We believe this will take kosher meat and food production to the next level in NSW offering the highest standard of Kashrut together with the highest standards of food production,” Kashrut Authority (KA) rabbinic administrator Rabbi Moshe Gutnick said.

“We are certain kosher consumers will be thrilled with these developments.”

KA president Baron Revelman congratulated Kosherworld on “the imminent completion of their plans to bring Hadassa Butchery to the level it rightly deserves in the vibrant and expanding kosher market in Sydney”.
