Limmud spirit rocks Melbourne
With more than 160 sessions over three days and across two venues, this year’s Limmud Oz in Melbourne explored almost every facet of Jewish life in Australia, Israel and the world.
WITH more than 160 sessions over three days and across two venues, this year’s Limmud Oz in Melbourne explored almost every facet of Jewish life in Australia, Israel and the world.
More than 950 people attended a range of events, lectures and musical renditions, including close to 300 participants at Saturday evening’s musical havdalah session at the Theodor Herzl Social Club, which co-chair Mandi Katz considered particularly special. “The highlight for me was absolutely the Shabbat program, a first for Limmud Oz in Melbourne,” she said.
“Limmud is unique in the Jewish world in bringing Jews of very different outlooks together, to share ideas, argue and learn from each other. Adding a Shabbat component to Limmud, with each person honouring the Shabbat in their own way, enhanced the Limmud spirit.”
Looking to the future, co-chair Annette Charak said, “Limmud Oz comes to Melbourne again in 2018. We have been co-chairs for two festivals now and we are keen to support our fantastic younger committee members to take the lead for the next event, bringing a fresh approach and taking Limmud Oz Melbourne into the future.”
Limmud Oz opens on Saturday 25 June 2016 with an afternoon of discussion and debate at the Theodor Herzl Club, in Caulfield, a communal havdalah, and an evening of entertainment at Limmud Oz’s traditional home at Monash Caulfield.
It continues throughout Sunday 26 June and Monday 27 June.
