Lowy’s plum appointment

COMMUNAL identity Steven Lowy has been appointed the next head of the Keren Hayesod-UIA (KH-UIA) World Board of Trustees.

The son of Westfield founder Frank Lowy, who is an established businessman and philanthropist in his own right, will take over as chairman from David Koschitzky at the upcoming Keren Hayesod annual conference in May.

In a letter to campaign presidents and chairs, and members of the executive, KH-UIA world chairman Shmuel Grundwerg, CEO Greg Masel and Koschitzky said they were “very pleased” Lowy had agreed to take up the role at the request of KH-UIA’s international leadership in Jerusalem.

“The world family of Keren Hayesod-UIA is most privileged that Steven has agreed to take upon himself this prominent role, bringing to it his great experience as a global business leader, years of community involvement and the unparalleled Lowy family tradition of generosity and commitment to the wellbeing of the people of Israel,” they said.

UIA federal president Lance Rosenberg remarked that he and Lowy have worked together for UIA for over 30 years, “since our days together in UIA Young Leadership”.

“He brings a wealth of experience and passion to the role and will ensure that Keren Hayesod-UIA continues to empower and strengthen the people of Israel in an unparalleled manner,” Rosenberg said.

“As the key fundraiser and bridge between the Jewish Diaspora and Israel, Keren Hayesod-UIA can only benefit from the calibre of leadership and integrity Steven brings to this role.”

Lowy and wife Judy have been working for and supporting KH-UIA since the 1980s.

In the early 1990s Lowy chaired the Young Leadership Division in New South Wales and chaired International Young Leadership in mid-late 1990s.

In 1998 he was awarded the Avi Hai KH International Award for Young Leadership.

Since then he has worked to assist the Major Donors Division in New South Wales.
