NINE Maccabi swimmers were on show at the Metropolitan South- East (MetSEA) Summer Championships, all posting personal-best times, while the boys’ 4x50m and medley relay teams booked a spot at the NSW State Swimming Championships in January.

Alon Pajor, Judd Katz, Jared Elbourne, Damon Glick and Sam Penkin – who participate in the under-11 and under-12 categories – knocked off 3.5 seconds of their combined 50m freestyle times.

The boys then went on to post superb results in their other respective strokes, including Glick producing an under-40 second time in the 50m butterfly; Penkin swimming the 50m breaststroke in less than 48 seconds; Elbourne taking more than six seconds off his 100m backstroke time; and Pajor placing in the top 10 in all bar one of his events.

In other results, 16-year-old Maccabiah swimmer Josh Zwi clocked a stellar time in the 100m freestyle, before placing eighth overall in the 400m freestyle.

Meanwhile, the under-13 and under-14 girls were also on song at the MetSEA event.

Laila Reuven and Lea Menaker competed together, with the latter edging out her teammate by one-hundredth of a second in the 50m backstroke event, while breaststroke specialist Sabrina Penkin knocked another second off her best 100m time.

“We were so impressed with all our swimmers,” coach Anthony Goodridge told The AJN.

“There were plenty of best times and some pretty gutsy efforts thrown in too.”
