A free-flowing, multi-phase move led to Maccabi’s first try to Man of the Match Mikey Herman, converted by captain Dean Friedlander, who then added three penalty goals, before Engadine scored a great individual try against the run of play just before half-time.
At 16-7 to Maccabi, the game was in the balance, but an outstanding defensive commitment by Maccabi ensured Engadine did not score again.
Maccabi were in the mood for more points, scoring their second try through Aaron Muller on the end of a driving maul.
Friedlander converted, and kicked two more penalty goals in a brilliant day with the boot, to secure an impressive 29-7 victory for Maccabi.
Their coach George Davis, who came off the bench, described the match as an “incredible team performance which ranks right up there with the best wins I’ve been involved with in my six years at the club.
“For the first time this season, we really put together everything we’ve been working on in training, and confidence is sky high.”
Maccabi takes on the Sydney Convicts at Lyne Park from 3.15pm this Saturday.
