THE Maccabi All Stars women’s six-a-side football team recently took out the Eastern Suburbs tournament with an emphatic 7-2 win over the Greek community’s Gangster Squad.

Maccabi proved too good for its opposition in the grand final, with starring performances from Chani Charak, who slotted four goals, and Rachael Jablonka, who added the other three.

The side got off to a flyer with a 3-1 lead at the break, before running away with the match in the second half.

Maccabi defensive trio Miriam Charak, Rebecca Kriesler and Nicole Mello were resolute, continually shutting down the Gangster’s dangerous captain and striker.

Meanwhile, midfielders Ariela Shatari and Renata Malinauskas took control of the ball and set up the forwards with piercing runs and top skills.

Charak and Jablonka were deadly in front of goal, and could well have hit the back of the net on more occasions had it not been for several great saves from the opposi- tion goalkeeper.

The title win came after a stellar victory in the semifinal, with the All Stars getting up over the undefeated Premier League side Loko A in a penalty shootout.

Maccabi led 2-1 with only 10 minutes remaining, before conceding a late equaliser to take the game into extra time.

Neither team could break the deadlock in the additional period, before goalkeeper Naomi Sirmai proved to be the hero, with the shot-stopper parrying away two penalty attempts to get the team into the decider.
