PBs posted at junior swimming nationals

FIVE Jewish swimmers aged between 15 and 17 represented their clubs and states at the 2019 Australian Age Swimming Championships in Adelaide from April 15-22, with two scoring top 20 placings, and three posting personal best (PB) times.

Melbourne H20 representative Jesse Nissen, beat his seed time of 59.75 seconds by 0.44 of a second to qualify for the final of the 17 boys’ 100 backstroke, in which he finished 10th overall. In the 200 backstroke, he came 16th, touching the wall in 2:14.17 to cap off a solid meet.

The most consistently good performances by the Jewish contingent were executed by Ravenswood (Sydney) swimmer Eliyah Malkin.

Of her five events, Malkin placed twice in the top 20, coming 18th out of 51 in the 15 girls’ 50 free (27.27 seconds) and 19th of 57 in the 15 girls’ 100 free (59.05). She also came 21st as part of Ravenswood’s 13-16 girls’ 4×100 medley relay team.

Canberra resident Zak Levine, representing Ginnindera Swim Club, nailed a PB time of 56.17 seconds to come 70 out of 90 in the 15 boys’ 100 freestyle.

Maccabi NSW swimmer Ben Potash also earned a PB time of 9:05.31 to come 29th in the 15 boys’ 800 freestyle, beating his seed time by just over two seconds.

KRB Aquatics representative Gabriella Goodridge swam in three events; her best result being 40th out of 53 in the 16 girls’ 50 freestyle.
