A GROUP of 17 Jewish students were among 295 Victorians handed Premier’s Awards this week to mark their VCE success in 2009.

The Jewish school students were highlighted after achieving top marks in their units three and four, or final year, subjects. Two Jewish students, Beth Rivkah Ladies College’s Rickel Broh and Leibler Yavneh College’s Tal Ellinson, were also recognised as Top All-Round VCE high achievers, successfully achieving study scores of at least 46 out of a possible 50 in a minimum of five VCE studies.

“Victoria’s high performing students possess a number of important qualities that will help them become future leaders of our community,” Premier John Brumby said at the ceremony on Tuesday afternoon. “Leadership, determination and focus – these attributes will open many doors of opportunity in the coming years.”

The top 10 students in English and mathematics and the top five in other subjects receive Premier’s Awards.
