PM’s rabbinical appointment

IN the first meeting of its kind, a delegation from the Organisation of Rabbis of Australasia (ORA) held talks with the Prime Minister in Canberra this week. During the get together, which lasted an hour, senior members of the ORA executive spoke with Tony Abbott about opportunities for building bridges between the government and the religious leadership.

Thanking the PM for his continuing support of the Jewish community and Israel, the rabbis presented him with a specially inscribed menorah.

“It was most poignant that this landmark event took place on Holocaust Remembrance Day and the Day that commemorates the 70th anniversary of the liberation from Auschwitz,” said ORA president Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant. “The Prime Minister is a good friend of the Australian Jewish community and his warmth and compassion towards Israel was evident throughout the meeting.”

Rabbis present included Rabbi Kluwgant, Rabbi Moshe Gutnick, Rabbi Yehoram Ulman, Rabbi Yaakov Glasman, Rabbi Paul Lewin, Rabbi Pinchas Feldman and Rabbi Chaim Ingram.
