Maccabi Rugby Club recorded one of the biggest wins in recent memory, with a superb 14-5 victory over powerhouse side Redfield at Lyne Park on the weekend.

The Blues were at their scintillating best as they pushed aside their opposition, which had not lost a game in almost three years before the weekend’s defeat.

“This was one of those games where it was an incredible team performance across the board and every player did their job,” elated skipper Keith Friedlander told The AJN.

“We tried not to get caught up in our big round one win, so when it came down to it, the intensity and attitude was there and it mainly showed through our aggressiveness.

“We focused on defence a lot and that will be part of our campaign both here and in Israel. It’s also something we pride ourselves on and it takes a lot to cross our line.”

Maccabi is undefeated for the year after smashing Lane Cove 72-0 in the first round, but sits second on the ladder as Sydney Irish have recorded an extra bonus point.

“We look at this game as a big stepping stone and it uncovered our true potential, but we have to make sure we don’t get caught up in it,” Friedlander said.

“Our goal is to be three from three at the end of this week and we’re going to approach it like any other game and give our opposition the due respect they deserve.”␣

The second grade team was unable to replicate the performance of the Firsts, going down to Redfield 49-0.
