Questions about racism in RailCorp

SERIOUS questions are being asked about RailCorp’s culture after a series of incidents anti-Semitic and racist incidents over the last three months.

In the last three months, a German worker was called “F**king Hitler”, called a German dog and and saluted as a Nazi, another employee was told they were part of the Gestapo because they were wearing a German football tracksuit, another train guard gave a ‘heil Hitler’ salute and in the fourth incident a Jewish couple was told they should take a taxi because “all Jewish living in the eastern suburbs are wealthy”.

The most concerning situation arose after the claim the Gestapo comment because it was the employee in the German tracksuit that was suspended.

The Transport Appeals Board overturned that decision and rules that the comment was “racial vilification of the most offensive nature”.

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies chief executive Vic Alhadeff said as the number of incidents continue to rise it’s tough to claim they are isolated.

“”All racist assaults are of concern, as are all untoward incidents of a Nazi-related nature,” Alhadeff said.

“When a third episode occurs in the same organisation within two months, one has to ask serious questions.

“We are hopeful, however, that a sufficiently clear message is being delivered that such conduct is condemned in the strongest terms and can have no place in civil society.”

NSW Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian said RailCorp needs to change and  and blamed the previous Labor Government.
