A sigh of relief spread throughout the community this week when much-loved community figure Henry Benjamin was discharged from hospital after suffering a stroke last Wednesday.
A SIGH of relief spread throughout the community this week when much-loved community figure Henry Benjamin was discharged from hospital after suffering a stroke last Wednesday (July 6).
News filtered through the community when Benjamin’s online Jewish news publication J-Wire wasn’t updated for two days.
But on Wednesday, a week after being rushed to hospital, he was released to the care of his wife Kathy.
“We are feeling very positive and we are very fortunate that it was only a minor stroke,” Kathy told The AJN.
“His physical independence has not been impaired. Only his speech and his ability to use a keyboard has been disturbed.”
Kathy said that after rehabilitation and therapy, he will hopefully make a full recovery.
“We want to thank everybody for their care and concern, and we appreciate the unbelievable support from family and friends.
“Henry would like the people to know that, with the help of the community, J-Wire is already posting new articles again and his priority is to keep publishing.”
NSW Jewish Board of Deputies president Jeremy Spinak said that Benjamin is a great communal asset and he hopes he makes a full recovery as soon as possible.
“His energy, passion and love for our community are well known and admired by so many. J-Wire is Henry’s labour of love and we all benefit from his tremendous efforts. We wish him a swift recovery.”
AJN deputy editor Joshua Levi praised Benjamin’s tenacity, which is admired by all.
“While still in his hospital bed on the weekend Henry was asking me if I had any information on a story,” Levi said.
“J-Wire is more than just a news service for the community, it’s a part of Henry and everyone at The AJN hopes he will have a full recovery.
“Next time Henry beats us to a big story we’ll all have a wry smile because it means he’s back on his feet and doing what he loves.”
