THE Arizona Cardinals have chosen UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen with the 10th overall pick in the National Football League (NFL) draft.

Rosen became the first Jewish player selected in the first round since Harris Barton who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1989.

The 21-year-old from Manhattan Beach, California, has earned himself a reputation as an outspoken player, and following the draft he expressed his anger over not being selected earlier.

“I thought I should’ve been picked at one, two or three … I was really, really angry. I wasn’t really showing it.” He eventually came to terms with his selection and said when he got the call from the Cardinals, “I got really happy and really motivated.”

Some commentators said he might be too “intellectual” and “affluent” to be a strong performer in the NFL.

Those comments were met with suggestions of anti-Semitism, while Rosen has been quoted saying that he gets motivated by anti-Semitic slurs he often hears on the field.
