Australia’s rugby 7s squad for the Maccabiah Games in Israel are ramping up their preparations. They put in a competitive performance at the Crescent Head 7s tournament held in Kempsey on March 4.

After a narrow 12-5 loss to Hastings Vikings in the first round, Maccabi bounced back in style by beating Wauchope B 39-0. Adam Karras scored a double, while Nathan Ezekiel, Liam Baum, Daniel Baum, Jarred Ellison and Harry Goldman scored a try each.

After a 0-0 draw in the Plate quarter-final against Wauchope A – a match defined by incredible defensive efforts by both sides – the Wauchope lads progressed by winning a coin toss, which was required under the tournament’s rules.

Maccabi’s next tournament is the Subbies 7s on March 18.
