SYDNEYSIDERS will be able to celebrate 68 years since the creation of the State of Israel at the Zionist Council of NSW’s (ZCNSW) Yom Ha’atzmaut 2016 community concert and carnival in May.

Israeli band The Voices of Samuel will be leading the entertainment, alongside Israeli dancers and street performers.

The Voices of Samuel is named after a fallen Ethiopian soldier who died in Gaza, and presents a rich and diverse musical repertoire which includes both traditional and contemporary Hebrew music.

The event will also include an Israeli-style shuk where attendees will be able to purchase jewellery, books, homewares, Judaica, as well as an assortment of Israeli, Ashkenazi and Sephardi food at the food market.

For the kids, ZCNSW has organised a petting zoo, free rides, jumping castles, and face painting alongside arts and craft activities.

“This day is all about showing our love and support for Israel,” ZCNSW director of youth and young adults Teneille Murray told The AJN.

“We have planned an incredible day of Israel-inspired fun and activities for young and old and everything in between. I look forward to seeing the community united in solidarity and enjoying a great day out together.”

Also attending the carnival will be four advocates from Israel brought out by the ZCNSW to offer insights to the community about Israel as part of ZCNSW’s advocacy program.

Describing the advocates as “representing the best of Israel”, ZCNSW president Richard Balkin also encouraged the community to come to the carnival to show its solidarity with Israel.

“It will be a showcase of Israeli and local talent, a feast for all the senses and an opportunity to find inspiration and connect with Israel,” he said.

Various community organisations will have stalls at the carnival to showcase the work they do, including a stall for The AJN, where it will host fun activities including a guessing competition with an exciting prize for the winner.
