THE hunt is on for a new rabbi for Hawthorn congregation, the Auburn Road Centre (ARC).

It follows Rabbi Yaron Gottlieb’s announcement that he was leaving the shul after less than a year.

According to ARC resident Andrew Kahn, the split came about because the board and the rabbi “had a different vision”.

“ARC will be searching for a new leader, and, in line with ARC’s unique active participation and fresh approach, we have asked our membership of 300 strong to take part in defining the qualities of our next leader and setting criteria so they can connect well and inspire,” Kahn said.

Rabbi Gottlieb, who was assisted by ARC in gaining s’michah, has worked in tandem with Rabbi Steven Link to lead the innovative new congregation.

Rabbi Link, who teaches at Bialik College where the synagogue is located, will remain with the congregation.

“[Rabbi Link] has committed to joining our search for a new leader, as an active leader himself,” Kahn said.

ARC will celebrate its second anniversary on Shabbat, February 20, with a discussion of the fellowship. Enquiries: Andrew Kahn 0407 734 455.
