KAY Wilson, the survivor of a terrorist attack in Israel, is set to appear as the keynote speaker at Magen David Adom (MDA)’s upcoming annual campaign.

Wilson’s friend was tragically killed in the attack in 2010 while hiking near Jerusalem, but Wilson survived thanks to the emergency treatment she received from MDA.

Wilson is a Jewish tour guide and educator for StandWithUs and will share her incredible story as a survivor and what it means to choose life against all odds.

Dave Sharma, former Australian ambassador to Israel and long-standing friend of MDA, will also attend as a guest of honour.

MDA’s annual campaign aims to raise funds for emergency equipment, medicycles, ambulances and blood supplies that assist victims of terror in the critical first moments after an incident occurs.

This year MDA will raise funds to purchase new fully equipped 4×4 ambulances. These ambulances allow paramedics to reach trauma patients and victims of terror in rough terrain and those living in Israel’s remote communities, such as the Galilee and Negev.

As the population in these regions continues to grow, an increasing number of families are in dire need of local emergency services.

Often referred to as Israel’s second line of defence, MDA provides Israel’s emergency medical response and ambulance services, manages the national blood bank and provides international disaster aid.

Over the past two years, MDA supporters in Sydney have donated vital life-saving equipment, ambulances and medicycles, all of which are critical to saving lives every day.

The vast majority of the medics and paramedics are dedicated and selfless volunteers, who rely on worldwide supporters to continue their life-saving work.

The appeal is on Sunday, August 13, 6-8.30pm at the University of NSW, Kensington. Tickets: $45 includes supper and refreshments. Details: (02) 9358 2521.
