A FUND has been set up to help a Jewish family whose mother was the victim of a tragic driveway mishap. Rhonda Sharp (pictured) died on Sunday, her 39th birthday, when she was run over by her own car.

The fatal accident happened at the family home in Balwyn North, within walking distance of North Eastern Jewish Centre in Doncaster. Three children, Kalman, Yitzchak and Leib, all aged between two and six years old, survived the tragedy, as did Sharp’s husband Robert.

Since the death, the Doncaster and wider Jewish community has gathered to help the Sharp family.

A trust has been set up with the consent of the family to help them in the future. The tax-deductible trust, under the auspices of the Melbourne Jewish Charity Fund, will collect donations to make the family’s life easier in the difficult months ahead.

Rabbi Yaakov Glasman of North Eastern Jewish Community has been comforting the family. “The tragedy is simply devastating,” he said. “We are all in shock.”

He described Sharp as “the most loving, caring and gentle person you could meet”.

“She touched the lives of so many people in so many different ways,” Rabbi Glasman said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, her husband, father and beautiful little children.”

Sharp was an active member of the Doncaster Jewish community.

As well as caring for her children, she was a nurse at Masada Hospital in Balaclava and was involved at her children’s school, Sholem Aleichem College.

The funeral took place on Wednesday.
