ISRAELI Defence Forces (IDF) fighter jets targeted the office of Hamas chairman Ismail Haniyeh in the Gaza Strip overnight after a 9-year-old Israeli was shot and more than a dozen rockets were fired at Israel from the Hamas-controlled territory.

“The building which was struck (by the IDF) hosts many military meetings and was previously struck during operation Pillar of Defence in 2012,” the IDF said in a statement.

“The prominent Hamas building is used for terror purposes by Hamas.

“It was targeted alongside IDF strikes conducted throughout the Gaza Strip.”

The swift reaction from the IDF was in response to a barrage of rockets into Israel in the last 24 hours.

At 2pm (Australian time) on Monday a rocket launched from Gaza directly hit a home in the Mishmeret village in central Israel.

The rocket destroyed the house and injured seven people, including an infant and a grandmother.

Robert Wolf, who lived in the house with his wife and family, was in shock overnight.

“I nearly lost my family,” he said.

“If we had not gotten to the bomb shelter in time, I would now be burying all my family.

“That is two grandchildren, one 5 months old, one 2 years old.

“That would be my third child, with his wife, my wife, myself and my youngest daughter.

“They would all have been dead if we didn’t do what we had been supposed to do.”

A terrorist also shot a 9-year-old in Beit El, which led the local council to call for retaliations.

“Tonight’s attack on a 9-year-old is unimaginable,” the council said.

“We demand for the IDF to enter the Arab villages.”
