PANDEMONIUM ensued when Jasmine ‘Jazz’ Harrison and her Victorian mixed-age synchronised ice skating team called ‘Eclipse’ found out they would be representing Australia at two European competitions next month.

Eclipse is made up of 11 girls (included two Jewish teammates Kate May and Romy Karlan) aged between 12 and 15 who have been working incredibly hard over the past 12 months after they finished ninth out of 12 at last year’s Australian Figure Skating Championships (AFSC).

Fast forward one year, with new teammates and plenty of hurdles to overcome, the team will travel to Switzerland for the Neuschatel Cup and Austria for the Mozart Cup in a two-week whirlwind tour.

“We all started screaming and some people even started crying,” Harrison toldĀ The AJN.

“To prepare for Europe we are training during the summer holidays and that includes 5:45am training sessions. We are all training very hard and are very excited to go.”

In this year’s AFSC, Harrison and her team improved their placing by five to just miss out on a podium finish.
The team have been training a minimum of four times a week as well as performing and competing throughout the year.

Harrison’s mother Sharon said she couldn’t be prouder of ‘Jazz’ and her efforts.

“Jasmine is a prime example of living your dreams,” Sharon toldĀ The AJN.

“Whether your dream is on your own or with a team it’s amazing what determination, hard work and community support can do.”

In the middle of the two competitions, the girls will take part in a training camp in Geneva before heading to Austria and then home to begin school on February 1.

While the girls and coaches are focused on their European endeavours, their committee will be aiming to raise funds through sponsors to help the girls cover their expenses for the trip.
